Claims that Trump's alleged poor health kept him out of the public eye between May 27 and June 3, 2026, also circulated on Facebook (archived), Threads (archived) and Bluesky (archived). Snopes readers contacted us asking about the claim.
A White House spokesperson told Snopes that claims Trump had a stroke and therefore did not appear in public for a week between May 27 and June 3, 2026, were "categorically false and slanderous."
Posts from reporters and photographers showed Trump recorded interviews, met with White House advisers and went golfing during that time period. The president was well enough throughout that same time period to either write or dictate Truth Social posts signed with his name.
Given the above, we rate this claim false.
Snopes contacted Slapinski, who cited "unconfirmed" reports that Trump had a stroke, to ask for his sources but did not receive a response by the time of publication. Online searches did not return results for reputable news media outlets confirming that Trump had a stroke in late May 2026 (archived, archived, archived).
Tracking Trump
According to news reports, reputable photo agencies and social media posts, Trump appeared outside the White House, engaged with members of the media, or published Truth Social posts signed with his name every day between May 27 and June 3, 2026.
On May 27, Trump held a Cabinet meeting at the White House. Rumors circulated online that the president had moved that meeting from Camp David due to poor results from his health screening at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center the day before. That did not appear to be the case. Instead, as Trump said at the time, a poor weather forecast necessitated moving the meeting.
On May 28, Lara Trump, the wife of the president's son Eric Trump, posted "behind-the-scenes" clips (archived) from a pre-recorded interview with Trump for her Fox News program. The clips showed Trump speaking and walking around the White House with his daughter-in-law. The interview was broadcast on May 30.
On May 29, reputable news sources, including The Associated Press and the BBC, reported that Trump held a Situation Room meeting with his advisers to discuss extending the Iran war ceasefire. Trump posted about the meeting on Truth Social, signing the post "President DONALD J. TRUMP."
That same day, Rapid Response 47, an X account run by the Trump White House, published (archived) the results of Trump's May 26 examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, which concluded that the president "remains in excellent health."
On May 30, Getty Images and Reuters published photos of Trump leaving the White House for his golf course near Washington, D.C. Trump also posted on Truth Social about arranging a "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY" for the 250th anniversary of the U.S., signing the message with his name
On May 31, Getty Images and Reuters captured Trump arriving at the White House after a day of golfing. The president posted on Truth Social about a plan to install drone ports at the planned White House ballroom, signing the message with his name.
On June 1, Trump reportedly spoke on the phone with ABC News' chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl, saying he thought he would have an agreement to extend the Iran war ceasefire and open the Strait of Hormuz "over the next week."
On June 2, New York Post columnist Miranda Devine posted (archive) a photo of herself and Trump, whom she said she interviewed for her podcast that day. In response to rumors about Trump's health, Devine wrote in a column the next day that she "spent an hour with the president" for the podcast interview and "he is more alert and focused than I have ever seen him."
On June 3, Trump signed executive orders on a livestream from the Oval Office.
Trump had no scheduled public appearances on June 4.
Supposed stroke 'evidence'
Some social media users, including Slapinski, pointed to Trump's alleged swollen eye and tilted head during pre-recorded interviews between May 27 and June 3 as evidence of a stroke.
Those claims included a screenshot from Devine's podcast, during which the president's left and right under-eye areas appeared asymmetrical. Snopes did not find that Trump consistently tilted his head to one side during the interview, despite posts' claims.
It was unclear what caused the president's uneven under-eye areas during Devine's interview. Studio lighting can sometimes create visual anomalies, as Snopes has previously noted.
In Getty Images photos from May 27 and June 3, the president's under-eye areas appeared more even than they were in the podcast. Pronounced under-eye bags are common with age, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Asymmetrical eyes or general facial asymmetry are also natural. If a person's face suddenly droops on one side, that can be an early sign they are having a stroke. Trump's facial asymmetry during Devine's podcast did not appear especially severe.
