Snopes has fact-checked claims about the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for years. We've investigated rumors surrounding the financier's connection to U.S. President Donald Trump, as well as analyzed claims involving an Epstein-owned island in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

However, claims about Epstein took on new life in 2025 after the House Oversight Committee released over 20,000 documents related to him in mid-November. Also, claims spread when the Department of Justice released additional files weeks later. The rumors pertained to what Epstein supposedly said in the documents, as well as how the alleged evidence related to Trump, for example.

Our team worked to clarify facts about the documents.

Along with addressing those claims, we fact-checked rumors about Epstein's accusers; claims involving members of Trump's presidential administration like Pam Bondi, and whether a survey really found 47% of Republicans would still vote for Trump even if he were officially implicated in Epstein's sex crimes.
